On Stereotypes
Recently I met a friend, we are college classmates, it's a wedding ceremony and we are having lunch with other classmates. He talked about how he got fat and how annoying it is. I have the same problem before, so I suggested him to do workouts everyday. He wide opened his eyes and said: "You? Workouts?" Like it is a word never would connect to me.
Another time when I was chatting with a friend, he asked me out for a dinner, and I said I was going to watch soccer games, I got the same reaction.
I don't know how people could judge others by just a few clues, appearances or, say, stereotypes. (I am not saying appearance is not important, I care about how I looked like, how I suited up, and I think clothing coordination is very a key a person should take care.)
When I am doing good at something, does not mean that I can not be good at one other thing. When you see my playing every console games, I do exercise everyday. When you see me act quiet and polite, I practice Judo to become a Kung-Fu master someday. When you see the application I code being post on newspaper, I am drawing and designing interface for another website.
So open your mind, don't let stereotypes blind you, don't let your lack of knowledge make you evil, don't let You limit you. Do you understand what Otaku really means, and how you can actually hurt someone else by just calling him with the name, even if you don't mean it? Do you believe a person who looks like a bad terrorist who could draw the most beautiful paintings that Disney hired him to draw for children? Have you listen to a song so touching that even made you change your life attitude, was written by a person who never graduated high school?
They are all true and possible because I have read their stories, saw some of them happened, and I believe you could see it some day, too.
